7.20.08 – O'Connor attends the Cleveland American Middle East Organization picnic
During the annual family picnic of the Cleveland American Middle East Organization (C.A.M.E.O.), Justice O'Connor spoke to the members about her campaign and experience as a Justice on the Court. Members of CAMEO also talked with O'Connor about her vacation travels to many Middle Eastern Countries during her life. They shared stories of the beautiful land, fascinating culture, and delicious foods she experienced during her travels. This bi-partisan political action organization gathers each year to allow the community an opportunity to meet elected officials and candidates.
7.19.08 – Spending time at Cleveland Irish Festival
Justice O'Connor was recently in attendance at the 26th annual Cleveland Irish Festival held at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds. The event gave O'Connor the opportunity to meet several members of the community as well as enjoy the culture provided by the festival.
7.18.08 – Spending time at the Annual Captive Nations Commemoration Dinner
The American Nationalities Movement hosted their annual Captive Nations Commemoration with Justice O'Connor featured as a guest speaker. This organization will celebrate its Golden Anniversary in July of 2009, half of a century after President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the first Captive Nations Proclamation in 1959.
7.18.08 - O'Connor addresses audience at annual Lakewood Republican Picnic
The annual summer picnic hosted by the Lakewood Republican Organization included Justice O'Connor as this year's keynote speaker. Held at the Lakewood Women's Pavilion, O'Connor spoke of the importance of the Ohio Supreme Court and asked those in attendance to encourage friends and family to vote in the Court elections this year.
7.13.08 - O'Connor attends the Fraternal Order of Police BBQ during their State Convention
The Ohio Fraternal Order of Police spent Sunday evening enjoying a steak dinner on the grounds of the Holiday Inn in Boardman. This event was one of the events over the five days of their convention. Justice O'Connor attended this event and spent time having dinner and chatting with members of the FOP. The FOP has been supportive of Justice O'Connor's in the past and endorsed her campaign in 2002. O'Connor has always talked about her tremendous admiration for the FOP and she has been truly appreciative of their support. The convention wraps up with the members voting on Tuesday for the candidates they will endorse for the November elections.
7.8.08 - Cleveland Area Republican Clubs invite Justice O'Connor to speak
Justice O'Connor spoke to members of the Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights, South Euclid, and University Heights Republican Clubs at the South Euclid Community Center. She spoke to the various clubs about her reelection campaign and the many ways they can be involved including emailing their friends and family members about voting for Justice O'Connor in November. She also spoke to them about each group being involved in their local elections and how instrumental they can be in helping elect their candidates.
6.26.08 - Ottawa County Lunch Bunch hosts Justice O'Connor at Mon Ami
Justice O'Connor received a warm and gracious welcome from the Ottawa County Lunch Bunch. O'Connor spoke to the group about her role on the Court and why she truly enjoys being a member of the Ohio Supreme Court. She also spoke about the drop off in votes cast in the judicial races versus those cast in the Presidential and Congressional races. “It's important that voters are educated on the candidates and their experience so they can cast their votes all the way down the ballot,” O'Connor explained to the nearly 80 attendees of the lunch.
6.17.08 - Bowling for Justice Fundraiser with Young Columbus Professionals
Several young professionals from Columbus participated in a bowling fundraiser for Justice O'Connor at the Columbus Athletic Club. Over 40 participants formed teams to compete for the winning slot and the opportunity to have dinner with Justice O'Connor. Congratulations to the winning team: Nathaniel Jonhenry, Shawn Nelson, Tim Lynch, and Andy Spencer.
6.9.08 - Justice O'Connor visits Richland County, addresses voters
In a recent visit to Mansfield, Justice O'Connor began the day having breakfast with several of the local judges and the Community Corrections Board. A radio interview with Rusty Cates of WMAN followed the breakfast. As her visit concluded, Justice O'Connor was featured as the guest speaker for the Richland County Republican Club.
During her speech, Justice O'Connor urged local voters to inform those around them of the election process while also conveying the importance of voting. O'Connor then addressed the impact of the state's highest court on such issues as rights as a citizen and interpreting ambiguity in the legislature. After meeting with elected city and county officials throughout the day, Justice O'Connor commented that she was impressed by the Richland County officials and how they have made it a priority to work together.
6.5.08 - Greater Toledo Republican Club features Justice O'Connor
During a recent meeting of the Greater Toledo Republican Club, Justice O'Connor was featured as the guest speaker. She spoke about her role as a Supreme Court justice, her judicial philosophy and experience, as well as some of the recent events of her campaign for reelection. Following her speech, Justice O'Connor swore in the officers of the Club.
5.28.08- American International Group, Inc. (AIG) welcomes Justice O'Connor as Keynote speaker for the annual conference
AIG is the leading international insurance organization as well as the world leader in insurance and financial services. Justice O'Connor spoke gave the keynote address during lunch for the AIG conference. O'Connor spoke to the group about the Supreme Court of Ohio and how decisions in the past have affected the insurance industry as well as the citizens of Ohio. Prior to this address, O'Connor met with several future AIG leaders to learn about their future plans and hear advice from Justice O'Connor.
5.15.08 - The Republican Party of Cuyahoga County honors Justice O'Connor
The Republican Party of Cuyahoga County recently named Justice O'Connor the recipient of the William H. Rehnquist Award during their 2008 Judicial Salute Dinner. The Award is named in honor of the nation's sixteenth Chief Justice, who served on the United States Supreme Court from 1972 up until the time of his death in 2005. The award is given in remembrance and honor of Chief Justice Rehnquist's dedication to conservative jurisprudence. Justice O'Connor received the award in honor of her judicial career and dedication to public service.
5.15.08 - Justice O'Connor to address the Knox County GOP Luncheon
Justice O'Connor will be the keynote speaker to the Knox County Republicans at their luncheon to be held Thursday, May 15th. 5.8.08 - National Public Policy Discussion features panelist Justice O'Connor
Justice O'Connor took part in discussion of the court's role in public policy deliberations during a national conference focusing on this topic in Philadelphia. The National Center for State Courts and the Pew Center on the States sponsored the conference, which was held at the National Constitution Center. Justice O'Connor addressed the strategies used by state judicial leaders to advance reforms in public policy while serving on a panel entitled “Principles of Leadership in Advancing Public Policy.”
5.2.08 - Justice to serve as Judge for the We the People Civic Competition
Justice O'Connor has served as judge for the We the People competitions in Ohio and is going to serve as judge for the 21st annual We the People: the Citizen and the Constitution National Finals in Washington, D.C this weekend. High School teens will field political and constitutional issues, as well as historical facts, in front of a judicial panel. The competition is sponsored by the Center for Civic Education and is set up to simulate congressional hearings.
4.28.08 - Girl Scouts hear message from Justice O'Connor at annual conference
Justice O'Connor recently spoke at the Seal of Ohio Girl Scout Council's annual leadership conference and recognition luncheon in Columbus, Ohio. The event honored top scouts from around the state, with about 300 scouts and family members in attendance. In 2006, the 17-county Seal of Ohio Council served 24,000 girls ranging from ages 5 to 17 and 7,000 adult volunteers.
4.23.08 - Justice O'Connor speaks at Take Our Children to Work Day
The children of Court employees were welcomed by Justice O'Connor at the Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. A tour of the Ohio Judicial Center, security facilities, and courtroom followed a meet-and-greet session with Justice O'Connor over the course of the day. Individuals, families, and workplaces have participated in this program that seeks to expand opportunities for children for over 15 years.
4.18.08 - Annual Shirley Chisholm Conference for Girls hosted by Justice O'Connor
During the annual conference for Girls in Government, Justice O'Connor spent time speaking with 50 girls at their stop at the Ohio Judicial Center. The Columbus Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. sponsored the event, with girls in grades seven through ten in attendance. This annual conference seeks to introduce girls to various women leaders in government in the hopes of inspiring them to pursue lives of public service. During the conference, participants met with Justice O'Connor in addition to receiving the opportunity to tour the Supreme Court and sit in on a judicial panel.
4.11.08 - Justice O'Connor speaks with Prosecuting Attorneys Association
Several prosecuting attorneys practicing before the Supreme Court received practical advice from Justice O'Connor during a recent spring training conference of the Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association. The advice included tips on filing jurisdictional memos as well as preparing for oral argument. Founded in 1937, the Association is a private, non-profit membership organization benefitting Ohio's 88 elected county prosecutors.
3.14.08 - OMA Board of Directors endorses Justice O'Connor
The OMA Board of Directors this week voted to Justice Maureen O'Connor re-election to the Ohio Supreme Court.
Justice O'Connor is running for her second six-year term. Her opponent is Judge Joe Russo, a Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court judge. Justice O'Connor, a former Ohio Lieutenant Governor, was raised in Strongsville and Parma. She was previously prosecuting attorney in Summit County. Justice O'Connor is known for a philosophy of judicial restraint, and has helped establish a court that has provided predictability and stability in the law. 03/14/2008 per the OMA
